It’s the last full week of July, and you know what that means: Summer is nearly half over. It’s time to start preparing for the 2019-2020 school season. When people say that they usually mean the back to school clothes and supply shopping but I find that be the easy part. More challenging is the shift in focus from lazy days of summer to the business of schoolwork and schedules. I’m never eager for the morning rush on school days but I do look forward to the structure of schedules (for the remainder of the day at least). Here are our tried and true tips for a great school year ahead!
Early to bed, early to rise
…makes a person healthy, wealthy and wise. I can never overestimate the importance of getting enough rest. Not only for school-aged kids but their parents too.
Take it slow
This goes hand-in hand with the previous tip. If you are used to waking up on time (after a full night’s rest), there will be no need to rush. Allow yourself extra time to deal with the inevitable traffic backup so you can avoid getting into an accident yourself. This is especially true for of-age teens who are diving into driving this year.
Nourish the body
Food is fuel. When you use the good stuff your car runs best and the same rings true for our bodies. We rarely purchase the lunches at school that are laden with chemicals and bad fats. It’s a much better idea to pack your own lunch to control what goes into your kids’s bodies so that they have the proper nourishment to keep them going all day.
Write it down
If I don’t jot it down, it will get missed. Whether it’s a piano lesson, big test, doctor’s appointments. It doesn’t matter. I would not be able to get through life without tracking it all in one hand place. I know that many people like to keep a planner, but as much as I want to be that person I am all digital. Make your method work for you.
We want to hear from you…

These are great tips. I always tell my kids to get to bed early. Sometimes they listen. Sometimes they don’t. But we do have to rise early no matter what!

That “write it down” is so important. There is just way too much information out there to think we can keep it all in your head.

My daughter is going back to school in lest than 4 weeks, so these tips are very useful. Our biggest problem is that she never wants to go early to bed :P

I feel her pain. I love staying up for my “me” time but I always regret it the next morning.
