We’re weeks away from the official summer kickoff, but grilling season has already begun where we live. Oh, how I love cooking dinner outside, and leaving the mess out there too. This summer we’re aiming not only to cook more on the grill, but to actually eat on the patio as well.
We eat a lot of turkey in place of beef for leaner, healthier meals. My first burger of the season was this delicious turkey burger with grilled apples and brie, served with a raw honey “faoli”.
The first step is to make your burger patties. Mix together the ground turkey, sage and onion powder and form your patties. Cook on a hot grill to an internal temperature of 165 degrees fahrenheit.
Meanwhile, grill sliced apples on an oiled grill until done. I sautéed onions as well, and I think it helps round out the flavors.
Now as for the faoli. A real aoli is delicious but I prefer recipes that are quick and easy, and it doesn’t get easier than this. Just whip together your favorite pre-made mayo with honey and red pepper flakes.
I don’t think I have ever had a Turkey Burger. They look really great with those onions.
