Top 5 Reasons Why You Should Shop at Consignment Stores

By Heather

Most of the time, we shop for what we need and we shop for what we want. Whenever we are in the mall, there seems to be a justification for almost anything. There are times when we even buy the things we do not necessarily need. While most of us can afford to splurge on items day after day, some of us – those who live off of an allowance or are following a specific monthly budget – would only feel bad for spending so much on designer brands.

What is a consignment shop?

The good news is that spending money on a designer brand can be guilt-free. The act of consignment has been around for decades now. It happens when someone gives another person custody, care, and charge on materials and products while retaining legal ownership until sale. After having sold it successfully, the owner and the consignment shop split the profit.

Why should you shop at consignment stores?

1. An environmentally-friendly way of shopping

When it comes to shopping, fashion is never too far. However, fashion is actually considered one of the top industries that contribute to the decline of our environmental beauty. With The RealReal and other consignment shops, you can buy items that have already been slightly used. Thus, you can practice the process of reducing, reusing, and recycling.

2. Shopping for on trend and seasonal items

Believe it or not, most luxury brands – like Gucci, Prada, and Chanel – tend to release items that are in season. Consignment stores can ease you into buying specific items that are on trend or in season. It would make spending money on an item that you’ll only wear for a few months much more guilt-free. If you are worried about how some of the items may no longer be in style by the time you buy it, don’t worry. Consignment stores carefully screen each of their products to ensure that they are in style and are considered trendy for the current season.

3. A great alternative for thrift store shopping

Stepping into a thrift store makes every person feel like they are on a treasure hunt. The rush of having found something in that pile of secondhand clothes is something that you love but can never really explain. Well, consignment shops are quite similar. If you have had your eye on that Gucci belt for quite some time now, why not try browsing through consignment shops ? You would be happy to know that luxury shopping and convenience can go hand-in-hand.

4. Shopping for the same brand pieces for less money

If it hasn’t been obvious enough, shopping at a consignment store is a cost-effective way of shopping for the same brand but paying for less money. If you want a branded item but are following a kind of budget, try looking them up on consignment stores. Products under consignors may typically have been already used; however, these are still in pretty good condition. Plus, they cost less than your actual retail price. In most cases, these luxury branded items may even be 80% off at consignment stores!

5. Shopping for different brand pieces on one platform

Another reason why you should buy at consignment stores is for the convenience it brings to the table. Every person have had struggled with hopping from one store to the other because they couldn’t find what they were looking for. However, this act only causes you to spend more money. By shopping on one platform, one consignment store, you can browse through different luxury brands in one go. You can even find unusual items and rare finds on other brands.

In the end, finding the perfect consignment store can go a long way. Find some of the classiest, fanciest, and most affordable items that will make every shopper’s dream come true.

These are great tips and reasons and ones I never think of. It’s much easier to go thrift shopping, but I should give consignment stores a chance as well. I’ll definitively keep that in mind the next time I go clothes shopping!

I am not much of a shopper, but I’ll have to check out RealReal. My daughter shops at thrift shops as well as online consignment shops. It is always fun to see what great things she finds, and they are always a good deal.

I’m so with you on this one. Luxury shopping that is also sustainable can go hand in hand. I’ve tried thrift shopping and the pressure to find something is real. Many times I’ve left without getting anything or with something I’m not completely in love with just for the sake of not leaving empty-handed. I’ve found some great products on The RealReal and toying with Poshmark right now.
