This Spring, I’ve been focused on bringing my garden back to life with hearty new vegetable plants and pretty flowers. It can be a back-breaking task, but so worth the effort. In Summer, I’ll be able to easily pick ripe vegetables and fruits fresh from the garden, and all season long we’ll enjoy the beauty of blooming flowers and plants.
But as happy as I am to enjoy the living things my garden produces, there is still something missing. Inanimate objects like the the Bell Trellis from WinterthurStore add the whimsy I’ve been looking for.
The items available at WinterthurStore draw inspiration from the Winterthur estate located in the Brandywine Valley of Delaware. If you are not familiar, this estate was home to four generations of the du Pont family and is now premier museum of American decorative arts. The home and its 60-acre naturalistic garden is open to the public.
Being someone who loves to scavenge for interesting objects from the past at salvage yards and estate sales, it’s no wonder that I’m so taken with all of the home and garden items offered by WinterthurStore. And as opposed to all of the dirty rusty items that are salvaged from old estates, these reproductions don’t require an ounce of elbow grease (or a tetanus shot!).
Each Bell Trellis features a powder-coated pewter finish and with four removable working bells. All topped off with the fleur de lis points. Assembly was easy; the design is two pieces, the bottom piece is attached with screws so that it can be staked into the ground. The hard part was deciding where to place it. I think it looks best against a wall.
BUY IT! The small (38″H x 12″W) Bell Trellis sells for $89.95 – a delightful gift for Mom’s garden. Members of the Winterthur museum receive 10% off.
