If you’re like me, short on time and keeper of an ever growing to-do list, the prospect of making baby food can be daunting. You want your baby to eat nutritious, consciously chosen foods – the origin and cleanliness of which you can determine – but you’re faced with time constraints, as we all are. Well, I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to be a gourmand to produce your own super delish, healthful baby food for your very own little one.
Start with the basics – make it easy on yourself. Check out Fresh Baby. They sent out their So Easy Baby Food Kit and let me tell you, it alleviated all my fears about getting down to business on the baby food front. Cute packaging, helpful information and highly functional freezer trays eased me into the kitchen and had me whipping up baby food in no time. Any time I’d ventured into this arena in the past, I’d end up with a mess on my hands when it came down to storage time.
Now I have a system!
A better way to store mashed fruit on the left versus the old way on right.
My son Jack is seven months (today!) and has been dabbling in the baby food arena for a few months now – he is a big boy and was interested in food early. I have tried a number of commercially available baby foods and while I like them, I’d also like the option of easily preparing and storing my own foods. Using the So Easy Baby Food Kit, I prepared mashed bananas, mashed watermelon, pureed sweet potatoes and pureed cauliflower. Making them was a breeze – and storing each in serving size containers in the freezable, sealing tray? Awesome.
My creations.
While I was fairly familiar already with recommendation for infant nutrition and suggested food/food order, etc., I really enjoyed reviewing the information in the So Easy baby food guide. The shopping tips and suggested variations and combinations for each main ingredient were something that I feel really set this book apart. What a great reference! And the laminated information card that came with the kit is a great go-to reference, as well – something you can stash in the kitchen catch all drawer that won’t be damaged or dirtied over time.
Bonus: I think this tray would be a great way to store/freeze serving-size amounts of breastmilk for mixing with baby’s first introduction to cereals. Those larger plastic storage bags are expensive to use for just an ounce or two of pumped milk per bag. This would be a great option for moms looking for that feature.
BUY IT! The So Easy Baby Food Making Kit has everything you need to get started, and it’s only $37.95. But read what Heather had to say about it first!
