This year we made a huge improvement on our home by finishing the basement. What once was a dusty strorage area is now a place for relaxation and play that the entire family can enjoy. Since it was just completed weeks ago, we have our work cut out for us when it comes to adding warmth and personality to the space.
When I decorate the rooms in our home I like to incorporate the senses. We want a specific look and style, materials have to have a certain feel, and we’d like the room to have a special scent, too. After the new paint smell has dissipated, it smelled of…nothing. And that had to change as we start adding warmth to our new space.
While I’ve always loved candles, I only smell them when they’re burning and it’s not safe to let wicks burn constantly. As a result, I’ve turned to air fresheners to scent the room to help make the spaces in our home more welcoming.
My first rule of decorating with scents is to follow the seasons. During the Spring and Summer months, I always switch out the scents in our home to florals and beachy scents. In Winter I get out the vanilla, pine and cookie scents and for fall I go for farmhouse scents like apples and pumpkin. Basically my favorite things about each season makes an appearance in our home by way of scent.
I had these philosphies in the back of my mind when I shopped at Walmart to pick up a few Renuzit Cone air fresheners. (They are also available at Target and Kroger stores).
In an effort to create that end of summer ambiance, I first added the After the Rain cones to our basement. It has nice sweet floral notes, and definitely made our newly finished basement smell great. When we walk into the loo, it gives us the sense of walking through the garden after a rain shower with the sweet smells of fresh flowers in bloom.
Just this week as I decorated our home for fall. I took out my Autumn decor and I decorated with scents using the Apples & Cinnamon cones. This is my favorite fall scent and I feel as though I’m walking through the apple orchards at our local farm, hot apple cider in hand.
The fragrance and decor switch-out was a total home transformation for all of the senses. Note that you can use the cones with or without a label; I prefer without. I also love the new improved cone design – the new shape is much fancier.
The scents that are a part of the Exotic Collection are very sleek, very bachelor pad, with tropical scents that everyone can appreciate. I’ll take any chance I can get to transform my Jersey suburb home into a tropical oasis. These scents bring us back to our honeymoon in Kauai.
We even placed one of the Renuzit cones in the unfinished part of the basement near the kitty litter. The smell from the litter can travel and we wanted to nip those odors in the bud.
The Renuzit cones are great because they don’t require a flame or the use of electricity to scent the room. For even more inspiration check out the Renuzit Scent Gents and cast your vote. You’ll also find info on the RenuzitRendezvous contest there.
