I was so excited to take part in a Pay It Forward mission. I’ve always wanted to do something like this! It feels good to give, especially to show appreciation for someone who works hard.
My plan was to hand out ice-cold Clear American flavored water bottles to my mail carriers, UPS, FedEx and USPS. They all work so hard and are always out facing the elements to deliver packages, and it’s been especially brutal with the humidity this summer. I get at least one visit a day from someone (if not all three).
I picked up the beverages on Tuesday evening. Later that night, Emma took a nasty spill. Her face looked so bad the next morning that I took her to the doctor to get checked out. Then we left for the pool for the remainder of the day. We had on and off thunderstorms the next two days and either weren’t home or didn’t hear any delivery men and women.
So it’s Friday, my due date for the project and so I had to bring the yummy flavored waters from Clear American to work. I was going to work on this project on my lunch break, and I was nervous that people would think I was insane. Plus I really had my heart set on doling these waters out to a mail carrier.
Lo and behold, we got a morning delivery in my office from the UPS delivery man! When I heard him come in I ran over to give him a bottle. He accepted. I quickly asked if he would allow me to take his picture. He was skeptical, but I explained what I was doing and he reluctantly agreed.
One of my co-workers saw that the USPS carrier truck was outside. I took my soft water cooler out to the elevators, where I ran into him. Kismet? Nah, he refused.
Then I went out to the lobby and saw the maintenance man painting. He also refused. Oh well, one out of three ain’t bad.
This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias, which is a vendor for Cott Beverages Inc., the manufacturer of Clear American ® brand beverages.
You’re just trying to be kind and they won’t accept it. Those brats don’t deserve that delicious water. And it’s good, really, really good!
Isn’t it funny when people hear what your doing. They either think your a complete “way out there” person or super sweet!
Awesome job.
Thank you! It is. Very awkward. But if more people did it, it wouldn’t be so strange.
Totally agree :-)
What a great way to give back. I never thought of our mail people. Sorry to hear some of them refused.
I guess they weren’t that thirsty ;0)
Great job! You are a rockstar. I was too scared to even attempt this shop! LOL. I tried to give water to the guy who cuts my grass one time and he said, “do I look that sweaty?” LOL. He was just kidding of course.
Thank you! I was excited at first, but the approach made me nervous. Glad some one accepted. :)
Funny how people don’t always want to take something for free even…but I guess I might not either. :-) I never take samples at a store even! Great post and good for u giving away!
Isn’t it? I love samples, but people can be funny about food. Completely understandable.
It’s sad that people are so distrusting. Speaks volumes for this world of ours! Keep plugging away at the pay it forward. It’s so rewarding and we do it often. And we love Clear American. If we ever run in to each other, I’ll give YOU a bottle!
Christy – I couldn’t agree more! It really does speak to the state of our society.
I’ll give you one right back! :)
Great little story. I would have been nervous too!
Thank you Kathy! I can understand why people might be reluctant because I think I might be too. :0/
