I remember back when Emma was about 6 months old, and we were gearing up for the beach. We brought all of the goods, including a sun tent, extra sunscreen, extra clothes, diapers, wipes, toys, towels, food and more. It meant a lot of extra luggage but also peace of mind. Babies need a ton of stuff, and Babies “R” Us had everything we could possibly think of and then some.
Packing for summer with baby
Make a packing list days in advance.
Whether you’re planning a day at the beach, pool, campground or road trip, it’s likely that you’re making a list of needed supplies. Give yourself extra time to think this through. Rarely do I come up with everything I need the second I start making a list. I like to start one in my phone and add to it as I think of something. When packing, check each item off the list as you go.
Plan to entertain.
There will be moments when you’ll need to entertain your child. Whether it’s during travel or waiting in line at a theme park, some babies will want to keep their little minds busy. This is one of the more easily forgotten aspect when it comes to packing, but it will be a sanity saver in the long run.
Leave an emergency stash in the car.
Most of us are traveling by car these days, right? It’s hard to remember everything ALL of the time, so I like to keep a bag in the car with extra clothes, diapers and wipes and non-perishable snacks. You can always run to the store to pick up these things, but you’ll be happier you didn’t have to.
Don’t overdo it.
Yes, babies do need many things. You have to really think through what your child really needs. Maybe you can skip the suntent and just use the beach umbrella. It’s about making this outing easier on the parent, so that you can both enjoy yourselves.
