If there’s one thing I’m truly passionate about, it’s that domestic animals should be adopted and not purchased. I wouldn’t buy a baby and I certainly not a furry member of the family. I refuse. They’re priceless anyway.
Before the kiddos came along and we were newly wed, my husband and I adopted our two tabby kitties. We had just purchased a new house but after settling in, it didn’t feel like a home just yet. Kids weren’t even on our radar at that time, but we had both grown up with animals in our homes and knew that this was what our house was missing in order to make it a place we could call home.
One day we were at a pet store where we always like to check out the kitties up for adoption – even to this day. Sure enough we happened upon two adorable 8-week old kittens. The one we now call Winston touched my face with his little paw as if he was choosing me. Our hearts melted, and unable to resist their personalities and devilish good looks, we adopted them on the spot and brought them home.
It was such a joy to fill our home with these beautiful creatures and then watching them bond with our human babies. For many years we spoiled them with fancy toys and accessories. These days, all they want is yummy food and treats. Don’t we all?
How sweet! I love that you got picked by your sweet Winston picked you! Knowing how special they are makes it even more vital you feed them the best.
Aww what a lovely story! I think adopted animals have so much love to give and they really do just need a chance to be able to bloom and enjoy life again.
So precious! We adopted our cats too. I think it’s so important to adopt pets in need. And my cats enjoy 9Lives too!
We adopted our doggy 14 years ago. Before that we fostered several during Hurricane Katrina. No pet shops for us either.
I totally think adoption is the best way to go. We adopted our pup and I do not regret a minute of it. She is such a perfect dog. I am so glad that you found cats that you love so much. Every animal deserves a loving home.
I have two rescue dogs and they are part of me now. There are so many amazing cats and dogs who need homes so rescue is always the way to go. I can see your cats are so sweet too.
Awww! Adopting kitties is the best! And adopting TWO kitties is REALLY the best! We adopted our two kittens (brother and sister!) in April and I can’t imagine life without them now. They are the best! They actually look a lot like yours actually. They even have their own Instagram–ha!
I’m with you 100% on adopting instead of buying. I’ve worked in animal rescue and I’ve seen some tragic things that I will never forget. Your cats are really cute too.
We rescued a tabby when it was a baby and bottle fed it. He’s name was Search. Such a wonderful cat. He lived a long good life.
I didn’t know that Morris had a Facebook page – that’s so cool! We’ve had several cats over the years. We live in the country and unfortunately, from time to time, people will just drop unwanted kittens on the side of the road. It makes me livid, but we have adopted a few of these abandoned kittens throughout the years. Love your adoption story, too!
Ugh. People can be so cruel. Those kitties were lucky to find you!
