I saw this idea on pinterest and decided to give it a try. I’m participating in an ornament exchange and the person I’m exchanging with requested a handmade ornament. It just so happens that I have lots of leftover mason jars in my house and while the prospect of taking time to craft seemed daunting this holiday season, this looked like an easy project to take on – and it really was.
You will need:
Hot Glue Gun
Mason Jar Lids
Fabric scrap
Small Bells
Festive Cardstock
Ribbon or Twine
Crafting is a fun hobby that I enjoy. There are tons of crafting materials at my disposal, albeit not in a very organized fashion. I did need to find a suitable material for this mason jar lid ornament, so I stopped at the local fabric store and purchased a remnant in a checkered country pattern. I’m not one for primitive decor, but I love that country charm in Christmas decorations.
The tutorial I first followed had me fold the fabric around the jar lid. It looked messy at the back and ornaments tend to spin and turn slightly on a tree so I wanted mine to look clean on both sides. So my simple hack involved tracing the lid twice using a sharpie on the backside of the fabric. I then cut out the two circles and hot glued them gently onto both sides of the lid.
Then it was time to loop my ribbon around the screw that your lid comes with. You can also use string or twine. Once that’s finished, I was ready to marry the two pieces by adding a few dabs of hot glue to the inside of the screw.
Very quickly I lined up and secured the lid. I found it better to face the inside of the lid out because it pushed the fabric out just a tad more. So for reference, you’re making the part of the lid with logo the backside. This is the back. It’s a bit crooked but I don’t care because it’s not the front.
I glued a snowflake cutout that I made using my silhouette machine into the center. From there, I added a few red jingle beds to the top with my glue gun.
I really hope the recipient enjoys my handmade ornament!

Homemade tree ornaments are my favorite! I have two trees- one with store bought decorations and the other with what the kids have created over the years.
