Before I took on the role of being a scout leader, I was warned that this is a thankless job. You’ll spend hours coordinating events, brainstorming ideas, handling money and making trips to the bank, filling out spreadsheets and lots of other mundane duties like attending long late-night leader meetings.
The girls in our troop won’t always thank us before they leave a meeting, and we never get so much as a card at Christmas. My co-leader and I joke that maybe everyone thinks that we enjoy doing all of this. But when I think about all of the public service projects that we execute, it feels pretty good to know that we’ve made a difference.
Last year we led an effort to feed the homeless. We gathered several troops together and our girls and parents together made bagged lunches for a local outreach group that makes a trip each month to Camden, New Jersey to hand out the meals. We also sang Christmas carols to the residents of a nursing home and brought food to the animal shelter. This year we’re excited to clean up the park and do plantings on Earth Day while we talk about how we can do good for the environment.
Of course you don’t have to be in a leadership role to do good in your community, but when you have an opportunity to lead a group in your efforts, it can have a much greater impact and that in and of itself is very rewarding.
That’s exactly why I’m proud to buy Green Mountain Coffee Roasters®. The company is doing great things for the world while also ensuring top-quality coffee in my cup. Through the Sumatran seedling program, farmers are given high-quality seedlings to plant which will yield a more fruitful crop and income to match. Through the Blue Harvest program, Green Mountain helped train thousands of farmers in water-smart agricultural practices all in an effort to provide better, safer and cleaner water to thousands of people. This is what we call making a difference.
Green Mountain’s bold coffee blends have always been my favorites because they keep me motivated so that I am able to squeeze every last drop out of my day but they also inspire me to do more good in the world. Walmart stocks my favorite Green Mountain Dark Magic blend, as well as a wide variety of other flavors!
I’m in Walmart at least once a week, taking advantage of one-stop shopping at it’s finest. Not only can I pick up the week’s groceries but I can also shop for household necessities, automotive supplies, kids toys and even eyeglasses and supplies for our scout meetings! I’ve noticed lately that the Walmart clothing and footwear brand, Time and Tru, has upped their game. I’m loving all of the new styles! I’ll be back to see what’s in store for Spring, and for more Green Mountain coffee!

I don’t have a machine that uses pods, but I’ve heard great things about this brand. I am always more inclined to have brand loyalty when I know that the company is ethical and gives back in some way.

I’ve heard a lot of great things about this brand of coffee. I don’t really drink coffee myself though. I’ll have to share this with some that do.
