We were invited to visit Liberty Science Center at the end of last month. I’ll have to admit that it was not easy for us to break from our usual routine of beach or pool on a Sunday afternoon, but I’m so glad that we decided to go. The kids have never been before, and I was excited for them to get some hands on experience with science.
The bloggers and families in attendance were treated to lunch in a private room followed by a science demonstration. The kids were so excited over this.
While waiting for the elevator, we checked out the bee hive. It was really neat to see a real hive of busy bees in action. They are truly fascinating creatures. A staff member told us that the queen was marked with a green dot. The bees are free to come and go through the tunnel to pollinate and then return to the hive.
We then visited the Beyond Rubiks Cube exhibit, where we took part in the many interactive displays. The kids loved solving this puzzle. There was something here for every age group.
This was one of several cases of similar 3-d puzzles – I had no idea there were so many. Emma was trying to solve the Pyramids puzzle in the car on the way up, and on the way home, she had fun playing with the Rubiks cube that we received at the event.
Emma had fun playing in the Block Party area after our Rubiks puzzle fun. These blocks were soft and bendable and the she told me this was her ‘elephant’ sculpture.
From there we visited the aquarium area and learned about the Hudson river. I was amazed to learn that at one point the area was once warm and tropical. The kids loved checking out the fish and I loved the view of the skyline from the balcony.
The kids’ favorite was the Clifford play area. They had a blast using the slide, playing kitchen, driving the boat, dress-up and more.
I love when learning becomes fun, and we all enjoyed learning about the different types of energy. Here is Emma harnessing the power of wind.
When you visit the Liberty Science Center you will be treated on many occasions to this marvelous skyline view. My favorite part of the day.
