Kindergarten starts a little over a week from today. I can’t believe it. My little baby has grown up. She’s still little I know, but things are about to change forever and my inner Taurus doesn’t like change. The thing she’s most excited about may be my biggest fear: the bus. I’m so nervous and emotional lately, but Emma is over the moon excited and I’m trying to focus on that positive energy. Love how kids can help alter your perspective in times like this. I went shopping for kids cards at Walmart for a friend’s birthday, and while I was there I picked one up for Emma.
I am so proud of my girl, and I wanted to celebrate her kindness and generosity by showing her the love. We tell our kids that we love them all day, every day but i wanted to give her a little surprise to amp up the excitement for her very first day. There was a great selection of #kidscards to choose from, and I found them displayed in several different areas of the greeting card area at Walmart. Emma is currently obsessed with Ariel so the choice was easy.
What’s cool about these cards is that they fit into a regular envelope that you can mail like any other card. When kids open the card, and keep unfolding each flap, they’ll realize that this is much more than a card. The card is a gift in and of itself, providing the child with a special poster. Emma thought is was super cool.
While in the store, I picked up some other surprises for the big day. She already has a backpack, but she did need a new lunchbox. Then I saw near lunchboxes a cool container that includes a built-in ice pack. Nothing extravagant – just a few practical items that she needed.
When her father took her out of the house for a few hours, I prepared her gift and had it waiting for her return. Of course she wanted to open the gift first but I asked her to start with the card. She loved it instantly, and then she loved it even more when she saw how this card was different. When unfolding the poster we discovered that not only was Ariel featured, but all of her other favorite Disney princesses as well. The poster is taller than her!
After everything was opened, she said to me, “Mom you picked the best kind of card ever; I’ve never seen one like this before!” The card was a “huge” hit.

What a great way to celebrate a special occasion!
I can’t believe how huge those cards are – and at such a good price too!
