Long before I had even thought about getting pregnant with my son Jack, I took a trip to Ocean City, NJ with some girlfriends and their little ones. My friend’s son was just about a year old and not yet mobile. Among the [shocking!] piles of gear she brought along for the trip was a lightweight, over the shoulder bag that contained a beach tent. I thought it was genius…and frankly one of the only useful things she toted with her all day, as her baby slept or relaxed in it for most of our day on the beach. I remembered it through the years, and when the time came and I was pregnant, I studied the options available for just the right beach tent. Lo and behold, thePeaPod travel bed was what I stumbled upon. Perfect for the beach but more importantly as a safe travel bed for any trip or occasion, the KidCo PeaPod was the penultimate travel accessory for my baby-to-be. I drooled over it during my entire pregnancy, and throughout the winter months of my son’s infancy. Now, summer is here and we are more mobile than ever – and my KidCo PeaPod Plus has arrived.
First impressions: The PeaPod Plus comes packed so nicely in a box with a hand pump (for the inflatable cushy air mattress inside) as well as a carrying case with carry straps. The PeaPod Plus travel bed itself – the P204, specifically – is a lovely sage green with tan and brown accents that I just love. Honestly, it fits in with my living room so well I actually like it in the corner! I was really impressed with the size of the tent, as well as the easy assembly and pack-up. I think this system with get much use over the years into Jack’s school days!
I unfurled the travel bed system, quickly pumped up the mattress and in no time, had an adorable little tiny tent in my living room! I threw a nice, cozy blanket over the inflatable air mattress, and I was done set up. I easily rolled up the privacy flaps on all sides, so I can see in the travel bed from anywhere in the room and here is the most adorable portable bedroom ever. Neat screened panels underneath the privacy flaps on all sides ensure that the tent stays ventilated – although it is a little warm in there when used indoors – the only drawback I can mention. Used outdoors, you’d have no problem at all because of the cross breeze. (Bonus: the tent offers UV protection!) At bedtime, letting the privacy panels down on all sides would quickly provide a quiet, darkened place for bedtime. I popped Jack into his little tent and he rolled around. Even our dog wanted in on the action. Confession: I crawled in and was able to lay down right next to Jack – with my legs curled up, I fit easily. Our dog even joined us for a bit. We just had to check it out for ourselves!
Not only will this travel bed be great for trips, but I also foresee it being a great asset at the beach, in our backyard and even on a rainy day indoors. As a kid I was obsessed with tents and forts – this one comes ready made. I think Jack will play, sleep, and enjoy the outdoors and his travels in his PeaPod Plus for many, many years to come.
