It’s the most wonderful time of the year! We are thoroughly enjoying the summer season, but it’s been far from lazy. We have been running non-stop to make the most of our three favorite months out of the year at the Jersey Shore. With so much time being spent out of the house, I like to take full advantage of the grill. Grilling means very little meal prep and cleanup which in turn gives us more time to spend doing what we want to do as a family. It only takes a few minutes to make my Kefir tzatziki marinade.
I mix together all of the ingredients in the morning and let the chicken soak up that tzatziki goodness all day long, right up until dinnertime. If you don’t have all day, at least give it an hour. Like with most marinades, the longer the meat sits in it, the more tender and flavorful it will be.
We are yogurt lovers, and I would liken the taste of Kefir to our favorite greek yogurts, so I naturally thought of tzatziki sauce right away when developing my #KefirCreations post for #CollectiveBias. I love the tart flavor, and when you season it up the right way, you can achieve a fantastic, light flavor.
If you’re using wooden skewers, make sure you soak them for at least an hour prior to grilling.
In our house, the food we serve is healthy eighty percent of the time. We love that Lifeway Kefir contains 12 live and active Probiotic cultures that support the immune system and balance digestive health so it not only tastes good, but helps you feel good. It is naturally gluten-free, 99% lactose free, calcium-rich, and made without artificial sweeteners. This recipe can be served with salad and pita bread but should not be served without my fat free tzatziki sauce. It’s delicious, and totally guilt-free.
- 1 pound chicken tenderloins
- 1 1/2 cups Kefir plain smoothie
- 1 small lemon juiced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil extra virgin
- 1 teaspoon garlic minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh dill finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon fresh mint finely chopped
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Combine the last six ingredients and mix well.
- Pour into a gallon-size freezer bag.
- Add trimmed chicken tenderloins and shake well to distribute evenly.
- Lay flat in refrigerator to marinate for at least an hour (the longer the better).
- Skewer the chicken and grill on medium heat for about 5 minutes on each side, or until no longer pink.
- Serve with Tzatziki sauce, pita and salad.
Carefully oil your hot grill before grilling to prevent sticking. Serve with Fat Free Tzatziki Sauce.

I’m always looking for another way to season our chicken considering that’s all we eat. I’m going to have to try this.
