We have been running non-stop all summer long. The kids get so much exercise whether it’s through swimming, biking or running around with their friends. I want to keep the momentum going, so here’s how I plan on keeping them active once back-to-school season is upon us.
Keeping kids active after summer
Sports
This fall both of my kids will be playing soccer. My daughter will be playing on the township rec team and my son will be learning soccer skills through a private program. Sports help keep the kids healthy not only physically but emotionally too. They learn sports skills and communication skills at the same time. Most of all, I love that their getting in their cardio.
Day trips
Just because summer is over, doesn’t mean we have to stop having fun. We’re planning day and weekend trips to amusement parks and we’ll be attending all of the fall festivals we can squeeze in. We’ll all get lots of exercise along the way.
Bike rides
Fall is the best time of year to ride bikes. After a summer spent swimming, it’s time to give those wheels a spin. I love marveling at the turning leaves and enjoying the outdoors when it’s not so humid.

I have kept my kids active during the school year by them wanting to join after school sports and supporting them
I take my daughter to the park for 45 mins every day after school, she loves to be outside after being indoors for so long!
I get them to play some golf with their dad and catch some frisbee!
I keep my kids active by finding out what they love and working at making time for that. My daughter loves kayaking and my son loves playing kickball. We all participate and have family time. I want to set a good example in terms of health and activity… and fun.
Between soccer, baseball and karate I have to schedule reading time.
No kids yet but like playing in the backyard with my nephews they love football
chores, and playing with the dog (he is very active).
Hi Heather, as a granny who watches her grandson both during the full summer days and after school until his parents get home from work shifts, I like to help keep them not bored and off the video games or TV. So we create a fun treasure hunt that gets both him and his neighborhood kid friends outside in the fresh air for fun exercise. I put about 10 clue hints on paper with a drawing to match, I hide but within clear sight, fun tiny treats or toys for them to find via the fun map. The one who finds the most hidden treasures, gets a bigger surprise of maybe a pencil pack etc.But they all get a same snack at the end of the treasure hunt. They love it.
I try to get my daughter out more doing activities like hiking and biking instead of just sitting watching tv or computer games!
My oldest son plays multiple sports throughout the year and my youngest has a bounce house addiction so he keeps pretty active that way.
