A few months ago Ryan got a hold of my phone and as with most other things, it ended up in his mouth. The cover I had been using on my phone did nothing to protect the ports on my iPhone, and the drool got into the charging port. I immediately stored the phone in rice to absorb the moisture, but it did not help. From that point on, the home button was on the fritz until it no longer worked at all. If you’re an iPhone user, you know how important that home button is!
Luckily, apple offers an on-screen home button so that I can still use my phone, but I will be replacing it soon with another. I’d like to say that I’m not going to allow the little man to play with my phone but that’s just not realistic. Sometimes I need to occupy him and that phone is one of his favorite distractions! So what did I do?
I got a great new iPhone case, and it’s already saved my phone from further damage. There are many different cases made by Otterbox offering different levels of protection. The Commuter case is the perfect balance of decent protection without being too bulky. It is made up of silicone and hard plastic and will absorb shock when dropped, and there are silicone plugs offering port protection from things like drool.
Considering that my former iPhone case cost me over $40 and offers no significant protection, the commuter case is a bargain at $32.00. I’m not normally too into pink, but I selected the pink and white case over the black version because I knew it would stand out better and I’d have an easier time of finding it in the deep dark corners within my diaper bag.
