When my son was in daycare we went nuts labeling his things. It was a lot of work! They want ‘everything’ labeled – his cups, bowls, utensils, bibs, clothes, and even shoes! It was not only stressful to pack for him every day, but even more hectic because we had to relabel everything each day. Permanent marker did not get the memo of being permanent in our household. It didn’t take long before his sippy cups that we wrote his name on with permanent marker washed off. Permanent marker did work on labeling his clothes, but then we ran into the problem of handing down clothes to a younger sibling. All of his labels would have his older brother’s name on it. How on earth would we be able to relabel them? InchBug is now coming to my rescue. They sent me a sampling of a few of their products to review and hopefully make my life, and others who read this post, a little easier.
The first product I put to the test was InchBug’s Orbit Labels. These things are AMAZING!! These labels are non-adhesive, reusable and elastic in nature. They are able to stretch around my son’s water bottles for soccer and his lunch thermos for preschool. They stretch but hold tight to the cup or container I am labeling, so I don’t have to worry about the label falling off. My kids constantly mix up their cups with others which grosses me out! My middle school niece thinks these are “awesome” and is asking my sister to purchase them for her sport’s bottles. Because these are dishwasher safe I don’t have to remove them each time I wash them which is such a time saver getting three little ones ready in the morning. For those of you who still have a child in the daycare or school age setting you might want something a little more permanent. For this, InchBug has also created Adhesive Labels. The InchBug Company was kind enough to also send these Rectangle Adhesive Labels to try. These labels are not transferable and are great for long term labeling. They recommend applying these labels to a clean, smooth, dry surface for the best application. I found that their suggestion to press slowly and very firmly really seals them on. Like the Orbit Labels, Adhesive Labels are also dishwasher and microwavable safe. I have washed my daughter’s cup numerous times in the dishwasher and these labels so far have truly held up. There is no fading and they are holding strong.
I have tried to remove one of these labels just to see how they hold up. This was a difficult task that truly took me some time. Once I was finally able to peel it off there was a residue left from the label on the surface. Because of this I would suggest ensuring that what you label with their adhesive labels is something you want labeled for the duration your child will have that item. These would be great for school items such as pencil boxes, notebooks, and calculators. I would even suggest using these to label your child’s phone, media player, and handheld game consoles and cartridges. These labels could also be created with your family’s last name to apply to items that are sometimes lent out to others such as board game boxes, DVDs and sports equipment. These labels come in sheets of 20 with up to two lines of text. There are also numerous icons that can be added to the labels to fit your child or family’s interests. The most unique thing that InchBug sent for me to try is an item called MyDrinky! My kids truly love the InchBug Company for supplying this item in the items to review. You see, I’m not a mom who allows juice boxes because I know my kids, and I know that the juice box or juice bag would be squeezed within a few seconds and end up all over the floor. With three kids, the less mess, the better, so everything goes into a cup in my house. But, this handy little invention makes it easy for a small child to hold a juice box, milk carton, or drink pouch without the mess. MyDrinky is a two piece adjustable locking container which holds a juice box firmly inside the hard plastic outer shell.
