Ice Cream: Don’t Wait for the Truck

By Heather

Having grown up on a barrier island at the Jersey Shore, I became accustomed to so many things that I now miss. The smell of salty air, the sound of the waves crashing onto the bulkhead, even seagulls. One of those things that I do not miss is the sound of that annoying ice cream truck as the driver made his way down the street. Just today we went to the beach for the day and we heard the ice cream man ringing his bell on the dune and Emma asked if I had any money.

The thing is, for the price of one treat at the ice cream truck, you can enjoy an entire gallon of delicious ice cream at home. We recently stopped at Walgreems and discovered that they now carry the same delicious ice cream that we buy at the grocery store. We decided to pick up Breyers Neopolitan and a package of Frutare bars along with fixings for sundaes.

So why wait for the truck when you can have something better (and cheaper) at home after a quick stop at Walgreens. Ice cream is the perfect way to cool off when playing around in the yard. We enjoyed some family time after dinner with delicious treats and play time. I didn’t hear any complaints – and all without the annoying ice cream truck music.

They actually DO have a great selection of ice cream and treats there. Besides when you’re picking up an Rx and don’t feel well, don’t you want the comfort of some ice cream too?

I would have never thought to buy ice cream at Walgreens. I will have to look into it. Part of the fun of the ice cream truck is paying for it yourself.

Yum! I can never catch the icecream truck. Timing is always off for me. I will be checking this out at walgreens next time I’m there!

We have a Walgreens close by us. We definitely prefer buying our own treats instead of hitting up the ice cream truck.

We are renting a house that does not have AC and have been going through ice cream like crazy to help keep cool. Of course none of us are complaining. I never thought to get it at Walgreens though, funny because we get milk there all the time, I will have to check out their ice cream section.

I was at Walgreen’s the other day and they DO have a nice selection!

I used to love chasing down the ice cream truck when I was a kid. The random arrival was part of the fun. It’s getting expensive nowadays though, so we save ice cream for special occasions.

We are big on ice cream here in our house! I will have to head over to Walgreens soon!

I really love the ice cream selection that Walgreens has. We hate having to wait for the ice cream truck too and he never seems to arrive at the right time.

I think the prices on ice cream trucks is crazy. The ones from when I was younger sold candy too. Our local one only sells ice cream. I splurge for my kids sometimes, but usually just buy it from the store.
