How to make your cat feel loved

My husband and I adopted our two Tabby kitties about 11 years ago when we were newly wed. We had purchased our first home together and wanted to share it. We couldn’t resist their personalities when we encountered them at the adoption center, and it was such a joy to fill our home with these beautiful creatures. For many years we spoiled them with fancy toys and accessories. At one point we even bought them harnesses to take them for walks outside! I guess you could say we were the crazy cat people…maybe we still are.

Even though they don’t get as much attention as they did before the kids came along, we still try our best to make them feel loved and well taken care of. Here are some tips to help you make your cat feel like he’s the center of your universe.

Cuddle him
My cats love to cuddle up on our laps. They’ll often seek us out once we have begun to wind down at the end of the day when we are finally sitting still. When your cat rubs up against you that’s his way of loving you and asking to be loved in return. Take the time to give them the attention they crave.

Keep his area clean
Cats don’t like smelly litter boxes any more than we do. We clean out their boxes several times per week using Tidy Cats® clumping litter which now feature guaranteed TidyLock™ Protection that locks away the odors that can lead to Stank Face. I love this new one featuring Glade for odor control.

Feed him well
The way to any animals heart is through his belly. Our cats are fed a diet of Fancy Feast dry cat food, and we treat them to their favorite Fancy Feast wet food for dinner. The Fancy Feast brand feels “love is in the details”- pamper your cat with delicious wet and dry food varieties specially formulated for your cat’s tastes.

Play with him
Cats love to play. We used to buy a bunch of expensive toys and devices to keep them entertained, but much like children their favorite toys are the boxes the toys come in. Pull a string around the house or even make a low-cost DIY cat toy and he’ll be happy as a clam.

It’s really that simple. Cats don’t need a lot of this and that. They are pretty low key and almost maintenance free. They just want your time and attention.

We find everything we need for our cats and our dog in the pet aisle at Stop & Shop. I love being able to get everything I need for the entire family, including our pets all in one store.
