Holiday Gift Guide: White Christmas Holiday Edition DVD {Review & Giveaway}

The song “White Christmas”, as sung by Bing Crosby has to be my all time favorite of all Christmas songs.  Apparently I’m not the only person who feels this way, as it’s the best selling single of all time.  Until recently, I hadn’t seen the movie based on this beautiful song, also named White Christmas which stars Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen.

The story begins in the army, where Bob Wallace and Phil Davis are serving during W.W. II.  After the war they become successful performers in show business, who by virtue of an “angle” meet two young and beautiful aspiring sisters.  The men follow the sisters to a Vermont lodge where they are scheduled to perform, only to find that their beloved general is the owner, and business is not good.

In an attempt to save the lodge, this foursome works hard on various routines, but when part of a conversation is overheard and misunderstandings take place, the road to their White Christmas proves to be quite bumpy.

In White Christmas, there is a little bit of everything.  Beautiful song and dance routines are combined with great comedy, love, and an especially emotional, nostalgic ending.  Just the way the classic song makes me feel.

They just don’t make movies like this anymore.  Sure, the special effects aren’t as realistic and perfect as we’re used to now, but there is no comparison to the great storylines, acting and talent.

In the special edition version of this film, the colors are bold and bright as they’ve been remastered.  For being 56 years old, I‘d say it looks pretty great.
