The lucky winner is…Sue E.!
When my Keurig arrived last week, my husband asked me, “Just how many coffee makers do you need?” It’s a pretty good question, actually. I own a regular coffee pot, one with a built-in burr grinder, a single serve system, and now finally, a Keurig. To answer my husband, I just had to know if the Keurig was better than all of the others. And yes, I just might be slightly obsessed with my coffee.
Great gift idea for: the coffee lover on your list.
I am the only person in this house who drinks it, so it doesn’t make sense to make an entire pot or even half pot just for me. I end up wasting either because it’s too much brew, or it turns cold before I can get to it. I’ve had a single serve brewer by another brand for about a year, and I really love the convenience of making one cup at a time.
My new Keurig Special Edition Brewing System has many more features than the other single serve machine, not all of which I explained in the video below. I left out the fact that you have the ability to set the desired temperature of your coffee, tea or hot cocoa. It is also pre-programmable, though I am not sure why you’d want or need to brew it ahead of time since it takes under a minute to do so.
I’m quite impressed with the design of the Keurig. First, it’s very handsome, featuring chrome accents and a blue backlit LCD display. Looks aren’t everything, but they sure do help. Especially when it’s something you’re going to leave out on the counter. But as I explained above, I can fit any size mug on the tray. There is no fussing when you have a travel mug to fill, as the tray can be easily removed with one hand.
When you’re ready to brew, you must choose between the three cup sizes: 6 oz., 8oz or 10 oz. I find the 8-ounce size to work best. When I tried to brew a larger cup, the coffee tasted watered down.
With Keurig, there is literally no cleanup required. This may be its best feature. The K-Cups seem to contain the coffee inside leaving no residue behind. I’m going to buy the MY K-Cup accessory in the event that I run out of K-Cups. This enables you to use your own coffee without having to pull out the old 12-cup coffee maker. For people worried either about the cost buying single-serve portions, or the waste of an empty K-Cup, this is a great feature.
There’s a Keurig to fit every budget, starting at $99.99. The K-Cups are available everywhere, supermarkets, specialty stores – you name it.
