Gulliver’s Travels with Jack Black on DVD (Review & Giveaway)

By Heather

My husband and I don’t always agree on movie choices, but if there is one genre of films that we both like it is comedy.  And one actor who splits our sides–Jack Black.

It’s a good think that Gulliver’s Travels came when it did.  There’s been a lot of stress in our house over the past few months and we needed the laughs.  What’s even better is that this film is rated PG so we didn’t have to wait for Emma to go to bed before we watched it.

Jack Black is Gulliver, a mail-room clerk with no desire to move in the world.  When he falls for the travel editor played by Amanda Peet, he submits a plagiarized writing sample to impress her and then accidentally commits to a writing assignment that requires him to set sail to Bermuda all by his lonesome.

gullivers_003With no boating experience whatsoever, he finds himself shipwrecked on an island where he is as large as king kong, and everyone else is teeny.  He continues to tell tales as tall as he is, until he sees the error of his ways.

This movie contains the kind of silly humor that some may find off-putting, but if you don’t take yourself (or the film) to seriously, you will enjoy this film.  There was one scene in particular that we didn’t care for as it was rather crude.  Thankfully, my daughter is too young to understand it.

Some additional features to go along with the movie are Gulliver’s Games, and this travel guide.

BUY IT! Gulliver’s Travels is available on 2-disc DVD now and come April 19th you can also purchase it on 3-disc Blu-ray format, as well as a digital version.
