A lot of men really have trouble when it comes to Mother’s Day gifts. It’s like that one day of the year we celebrate mothers comes along, and the men just freeze up and sort of panic. Part of the reason this happens is because men try too hard sometimes. I recently read about a guy who flew his wife from LA to New York and had car service from JFK to Manhattan just so his wife could shop for herself. Sometimes, men just get lost in what a gift is rather than what it means.
The meaning of Mother’s Day is celebrating the mother of your children—nothing more, nothing less. To help you stay on target and do something special, rather than big, for Mother’s Day this year, we’ve come up with a few suggestions.
Fun Activities to Share with the Kids—With just a little bit of creativity, this can be one of the most fun things you can do with your wife for Mother’s Day—your imagination is the limit. You could go hiking, camping, bike riding, horse riding, to a baseball game—pretty much any of these is a fine idea for a Mother’s Day family activity. It’ll be an extra nice time if it’s something you know your wife enjoys in particular. If none of those ideas sound just right, you can do a quick search on Google for activity ideas. You can even find Pottery Barn Kids coupon codes and make a fun afternoon of painting your own vases and pots as a family. The options are as open as you can imagine them to be.
Family Game Time—Another really great way to spend Mother’s as a family is by playing board games and card games together. Games are a great way to have fun with a little added competition. Everyone but mom can compete to see who has to clean the dishes from that really special dinnerz you’re going to cook her. Before Mother’s Day, ask your wife if she had any favorite games as a little girl—like Monopoly, Candyland, or Life. Whatever game she loves, buy it, wrap it, and let the kids give it to her on Mother’s Day, then spend the afternoon playing!
Family Movie Night—One of the most fun and simplest ways to spend Mother’s Day as a family is by having a family movie night. Mom’s surely got a bunch of movies that she loves. Make it a point to pick up a few of these favorites on DVD or Blu Ray and give them to her as gifts. Then, make her a nice dinner, and when you’re done, spend the night on the couch as a family and watch those movies!
These are just a few of the many, many different approaches you can take to celebrating Mother’s Day as a family. Each of these options lets you, your children, and (most importantly) your wife spend quality time together while celebrating the woman who is the glue of your family. The trick to making the family activity Mother’s Day gift work is balancing something that she loves with something that you can all do together. This approach is great because it’s thoughtful and you can’t go wrong!
