There is a local chain in Central Jersey called The Windmill. I first visited one of their restaurants in Long Branch during my freshman year at Monmouth University, but I really became hooked once I started getting their chili dogs in Freehold. Every time I drive to my sister-in-law’s house I think about stopping there for a bite, because their dogs are amazing.
I finally got my fix a few weeks ago at Casey’s in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. It was huge, and also tasty. My husband couldn’t resist taking a bite and he almost lost a finger in doing so.
Recently I picked up a can of Hormel chili – without the beans. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a chili dog with beans on it although I’m sure someone has done it. One of my favorite things to make with this chili is a chili cheese dip, but I was so inspired by these chili dogs I knew I wanted to try my hand at recreating one.
