I’ve been dyeing my hair since I was a teen. It all started with a bottle of spray-on hair brightener, and from that point on I was hooked. Highlighting became my thing. Then a few years ago, I decided to go natural while I still can and decided to grow out my highlights and embrace my natural dark brown. But alas, the gray and white hairs started popping up. I guess I should be thankful that they held off that long. I’m now approaching my forties, and with that comes the need to dye my hair when previously it was just a want.
The combination of the highlighting and heat styling has left my hair in a brittle state. I was excited to find a keratin hair color at Walmart called Schwarzkopf® Keratin Color. I’d heard amazing things about keratin treatments, so this sounded good to me. Espresso looked to be the closest color match to my natural hair.
The process was quite easy and similar to other boxed hair dye except for the pretreatment that came with this kit for the ends which ensures an even color result. With my bright ends, that is always a concern for me so that was a good sign.
Step 1
When dying your hair at home, I recommend wearing old clothing you don’t care about and having an old towel on hand too. It’s also a good idea to line up all of the supplies in order and read the instructions before you put the gloves on and dive in.
Step 2
It was so helpful to have the bottle and tubes numbered on order, leaving no room for error. I applied the pre-treatment to my ends first before adding the color cream to the applicator bottle and finally applied to my hair. This was enough treatment for my head of long hair.
Step 3
After rinsing in the shower I used the Keratin Care Complex Conditioner which left my hair super smooth.
Keratin Color brings out confidence in every woman by gently restoring and augmenting her hair. With every purchase of Keratin Color we can also help women get a fresh start through a partnership with Dress for Success®.
I was so pleased with my results. This color gave me 100% gray coverage and an intense even color, but what I love most of all is that it doesn’t look like one bland solid shade. It still has a natural looking appearance. The color is nice and even (my ends don’t appear darker) and my hair feels healthy and moisturized. My daughter was kind enough to photograph the before and after. What do you think? If you want to try Schwarzkopf® Keratin Color you can do so for free with this money back rebate.
Now for the DIY hair mask. Since my hair is colored, I wanted to use natural products that can be found in the home so as not to harm my new color. So this mask is color safe and will leave your hair feeling soft and refreshed.

i have done a Keratin Mask before and loved how it made my hair feel. Love this option of doing it myself!
This is great! I have really dry and thin hair! During the winter it gets even drier. This hair mask would be amazing to try.
I have done a Keratin mask once and loved it. I need to buy this and do it myself instead of paying the big bucks I did before at a salon.
