Finding the right cat litter is the single most important decision for cats and their owners. If you have a cat child in the house, you know just how important that is. We tried to switch to a natural kitty litter to eliminate the dust, but our decision turned out to be disastrous. One of our cats did not take to it and started marking around the house.
Cat urine has a horrible strong stench to it, so it’s crucial that you find litter that counteracts that smell so that it doesn’t dominate your surroundings. When I was shopping the other day I found Fresh Step Total Control with the Power of Febreze, a Sam’s Club exclusive, and I decided to give it a try. This litter contains Borate Technology which provides superior ammonia control and acts as an antimicrobial agent (inhibits the growth of odor-causing bacteria). Fresh Step Total Control with the Power of Febreze comes in a lemongrass citrus scent which I’ve never encountered before in a kitty litter and found quite refreshing.
We were pleased to be working on this campaign not only because we found a great new litter but because part of our payment includes a donation to our favorite animal charity. Kitty brothers Winston and Spencer were adopted together from a shelter, and we recently adopted our new puppy from a wonderful local organization called Joe Joe’s Place. The volunteers work tirelessly to find homes for so many animals and we are very appreciative of that, so we have chosen to donate there.
Now once you find the right litter for cat, it’s time to switch gears and focus on something just as important: play time. You can easily drop hundreds on cheap cat toys in pet stores, and we did it. Many time our cats enjoy playing with the most basic things like hair ties or twist ties. Winston and Spencer are big fans of the wands, so I figured I’d make them one.
Not only was this so easy, but you only need a few items to get started. All in all it cost me about $3 and I have plenty of supplies left over to make more.
Materials:
9″x 12″ felt sheet (several if you want different colors)
wooden dowel
fabric tape
scissors
hot glue gun, loaded
Step 1:
Cut felt into 9″ strips. I used 9 strips in total.
Step 2:
Using hot glue, attach the end of each strip. Just go around the dowel and overlap as you add more.
Step 3:
Starting with the end where the felt is attached, wrap the dowel securely with fabric tape.
Spencer has been having a lot of fun with his new toy, and I feel proud to have made it for him. Not only that, but unlike his feather wands, this one holds up well.

What a cute idea! Looks easy to do also. My girls would love making a few of these for our cats.
My Mom’s cat would love this. She is always getting into everything and using whatever she finds to sharpen her claws.
