Well, my daughter’s 7th birthday party was back in December, so I figured that now might be a good time to share the details. Emma dressed as Mal on Halloween so I just knew that when we began the party planning that she would choose Disney’s Descendants as her theme.
Due to licensing restrictions at the time, I was unable to find any official merchandise at party stores. When that happens, I just pull colors from the theme and roll with it. I also came across this paper chain printable, but I didn’t want to totally kill my printer ink so I decided to use color coordinated construction paper to alternate with the printable. Emma and I had fun creating this decoration together; it was her very first time making a paper chain and it brought back so many childhood memories for me.
While shopping at Five Below I found bright green, black and purple tablecloths and I hung them together vertically for our backdrop. Then we strung the paper chain and added the balloons and all was well with the world. I was really happy with the result and many of our guests were impressed. And all without having to overspend on themed merch. Of course, now you can buy Descendants themed merchandise if you wish.
This time I didn’t do props, but I kept the theming mainly around the dessert table. The fan favorite of the day were Evie’s Blue candy apples. See this post for details on how I made them.
It wouldn’t be a Descendants party without Mal’s love spell cookies. These were store bought to make my life easier. When you can get away with buying anything pre-made I say do it. Parties are a lot of work…don’t make more work for yourself if you can avoid it. ;)
The favors were simple too: purple and green star-shaped lollipops that we found at Five Below. I remember them being around 20 cents a piece.
We served dipped oreo pops for Carlos, and Jay was represented with golden banana bread (also store bought) and the red vase we used for Carlos’ Dalmation Spots. The cake was made with printed icing and turned out great!
So that was our party. We kept it simple due to the craziness of the Christmas season but I was pleased with the outcome.
Looks like the perfect party and it looks like everyone looks like they had a good time.
I love the Dalmation Spots. This was such a creative way to celebrate a child’s birthday. I’m sure all the food and decor went over really well with kids and parents.
Such a wonderful theme for a great Birthday party & I am sure it was a blast with loads of fun all around. I would love one such delicious party idea for my girls as well.
This is a real sweet post.
It is nice that you are able to do things together with Emma.
I love this. my girls birthdays are coming up and i bet they’d love this theme. so much fun and doesn’t look too hard for mom!
So simple yet so creative and cute! I’m a huge fan of themed parties – this one is a great one :)
This looks like a great party. These treats look amazing, I will have to share this with my friend who is looking for a party theme for her kids party.
Thank you for the idea! My granddaughter will be turning 5 next month so this would be a perfect party theme for her. I love the poison apples! I’m going to make some of those too.
How fun. My 13 year old is really into Decedents right now.
