Just the other day my children started a new school year. I did not create chalkboard signs for their first day, but I created their ‘First Day of’ graphics on my mac and had them display them on their iPads. It’s a sign of the times. Each and every human in our family is connected on their various devices. This can be stressful for parents who not only want to protect our devices from malware but also need to keep our children safe. We were thrilled to receive a CUJO smart firewall from Best Buy to help us secure our network and control access for all of the devices in our home.
Setting up the CUJO was easy. We simply connected the device to our WiFi router, plugged it into the wall outlet and I then downloaded the CUJO app onto my iPhone. Our internet provider features it’s own security, so there were some advanced setup steps required. We were surprised to receive a telephone call from a real live person to initiate this setup process.
The representative saw that our device was online but not yet functioning as it should, so he immediately called to get us squared away. This is not the kind of customer service we are used to receiving and we were grateful that someone was ready to help us even before we knew we needed assistance! The gentleman walked us through how to grant him remote access so that he could work his magic and within minutes, our CUJO setup was complete.
It may take up to 48 hours for the CUJO app to recognize all of the device names that are connected to your network. Until then, it may read ‘Android device’ or ‘Apple device’. You can also edit the names of the devices within the CUJO app for your convenience. The app is an easy way to check on your devices and possible threats, but the CUJO itself will also provide alerts based on the ways its eyes are lit. Pretty neat!
Now we have business-level internet security for anyone on our home WiFi network. This includes not only our devices but our friends’ too. Anyone connected while visiting and accessing our WiFi is protected. CUJO is blazing fast — featuring 1GB Ethernet.
As a parent, my favorite features are the internet filter to keep it clean for the kids and time limits for those who have a hard time unplugging. CUJO owners also have the ability to pause the internet altogether.
