We never replaced our car’s portable DVD player when it broke a few years ago. We just haven’t gotten around to it. When we know we’re going to be in the car for a few hours, Emma will bring along the iPad. The problem is that there is a limited number of games that she can play without a wifi connection. Movies are very expensive to purchase on that device, so we only have one movie downloaded on it.
We have Comcast Xfinity service for our home, and I can’t believe I didn’t know about the Xfinity TV Player app until now. There is a ton of family-friendly program avaialable through Comcast Xfinity both on our television and now via the app. Many programs can be streamed and some can be pre-downloaded so that you can watch when there is no wifi connection available.
After downloading the app, you first must log in using your username and password. Then you have all of the program you’re entitled to at your fingertips. Since we pay for HBO, we are able to watch HBO films. Emma is watching Hop as I type. She was also excited to find other movies and shows in the family genre like Matilda, Jake and the Neverland Pirates, and Octonauts. You can easily filter programs and movies that are available for download, and Brave was one of them!
I’m impressed and excited about this new feature. While I don’t plop my kids in front of the television, there are times when we all need a break from the running around we do and just enjoy a fun show while we relax. Summer is about relaxing after all, isn’t it?
We also love saving our favorite movies to Comcast Xfinity DVR and it is nice to be able to play programs through On Demand, especially when I forget to DVR them! There are over 1,000 downloadable kid-friendly shows with Xfinity Digital TV and Streampix subscriptions. Parental controls are super easy to set up to ensure that your child is only accessing the types of programs that you allow.
We wish you safe travels for what’s left of the summer, and peaceful rides to you parents while kids enjoy their favorites shows!
