A few weeks ago, we went strawberry picking at a local farm. It was the first time the kids and I went together and what a hot day we chose for it. We dressed the part, wearing light clothing, sun hats and sunscreen. In 95 degree weather at 10am we picked an entire flat of strawberries. We were exhausted and dehydrated by the time we were finished so we treated ourselves to some ice cream right after in the farm’s market. It was a refreshing treat and a welcome break; I guess you could say it was a reward for our hard work. There’s nothing quite like ice cream on a hot and humid day and boy did it do the trick.
One of our favorite treats are ice cream sandwiches, but the prepackaged ones you find in the store just don’t cut it, and the fancy ones you’ll find in the ice cream store or bakery are insanely expensive. No one likes spending $35 on a few ice cream treats, and with a quick trip to your local Walmart you don’t need to.
We had a bit of a break from the extreme heat over the past few weeks, but now it’s warming up again. So with two children in tow, I headed to Walmart to pick up some goodies to help us beat the heat all summer long. We found ice in the new clear tubs and being able to see the ice cream swirls inside while pretty cool, made it difficult for us to choose our flavors. We ended up with Vanilla, Butter Pecan and Banana Split.
Right on the end of the ice cream aisle were the toppings. Magic Shell Chocolate Fudge Flavored Topping was on sale and there was also a coupon offer for it in my Ibotta app – double score!
Over in the bakery section I grabbed fresh soft baked cookies. It was so convenient being able to grab the ingredients for our ice cream sandwiches along with a few other household necessities all in the same store.
- 2 fresh baked cookies
- Generous scoop of ice cream
- Magic shell
- Place scoop of ice cream onto the flat side of one cookie.
- Top the ice cream with the flat side of the second cookie.
- Pour magic shell into a small deep bowl and dip the ice cream sandwich.
- Set dipped ice cream sandwich on wax paper and freeze until chocolate hardens.
What’s your favorite way to enjoy ice cream to help you beat the heat?

Now these chocolate dipped ice cream sandwiches sound so good. I love Blue Bunny Ice cream and get it all the time. These sandwiches would be perfect for this week because of the heat. Thanks for sharing.

Oh my goodness – these look sooo yummy. I’m a sucker for ice cream, cookies, and all things chocolate. This will be a fun snack for me and the kids when we come back from the pool tomorow. :)
