Every day I thank my lucky stars that my children are healthy and happy. Not everyone is so fortunate. Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals provide comfort, treatment and hope to millions of sick kids.
Big sisters can provide a good dose of guidance and protection. But for Brooke, her big sister Caitlin offered one more benefit: a perfect bone marrow match that led to a life-saving transplant.
Brooke was nearly 2 years old when diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of leukemia. At 5 years old, Caitlin had a 25 percent chance of being a match. Luckily, she was a perfect match. After three rounds of chemotherapy, Brooke received the life-saving “energy” that soon led to Brooke being declared cancer-free.
Now that cancer’s in the rearview mirror, outgoing Brooke can focus on her love of pink dresses, tap dancing and mermaids. Caitlin maintains a love for gymnastics, playing basketball and magic tricks. But most of all, these sisters love each other and share a bond that runs to the core.
