Last month, I wrote about California Wine Club and the pair of wines they sent from Robledo Winery.
My second and final shipment has arrived, this time from Daniel Gehrs. Included were their medal winning 2009 Merlot and 2011 Chenin Blanc. This time they were wrapped, ready for holiday gifting.
But I wouldn’t be giving these wines away. Nope, I uncorked them instead. By the way – real corks again this time! (You may remember from the last post my affinity for real cork corks).
The Merlot is a wonderful Bordeaux-style blend of 87% Merlot, 9% Malbec and 4% Cabernet Franc. Merlot tends to go great with Italian food, pasta, and heavier dishes that include red meat. California Wine Club recommends Prime Rib. But I enjoyed this bottle with sushi. For some reason, I love reds with sushi.
The Chenin Blanc featured lovely aromas of honey and flowers wedded to complex flavors of fresh pears and quince. This wine was great paired with my cilantro lime shrimp dish, though CWC recommended seasoned chicken, asian food, and seafood. I can taste why both of these varieties have each won several medals.
There really is nothing better than enjoying a bottle of wine that arrived at your door step. This makes the perfect gift for anyone known to enjoy a glass of wine. I know I’d be thrilled if someone bought me a www.CAWineClub.com membership this Christmas, because I’m so sad that my 2-month trial is over. :(
One lucky reader will win a $50 gift certificate (one month’s worth) to spend at the California Wine Club.
