We Are in an ART-ivity Book! (An Elephant & Piggie Book)

By Heather

We are celebrating Mo Willems’ new book in a paid partnership with Disney-Hyperion.

In this house, we love Elephant & Piggie. Their books are funny, adorably illustrated and interactive. This is especially important when you’re reading to young children and want to inspire a love of reading. Mo Willems is the talent behind the Elephant and Piggie series and he’s just released his latest work, We Are in an ART-ivity Book!

Now available in stores We Are in an ART-ivity Book! is designed for children age 4-8. The first ever Elephant & Piggie ART-ivity book features any art-ivity you can think of like drawing, gaming, scultping, coloring, puzzling and of course laughing! There is also a new character featured, Art the aardvark who introduces Elephant, Piggie and all of their readers to an incredible span of artistic styles: a “banana” still life; a color-by-number Piggie “Scream” painting; a scrap-paper collage (for which you earn an official “Collage Diploma”); and so much more.

My eight-year-old had a great time with the drawing sections. She just loves to draw, color and create, and when she saw how close her drawings were to the actual Elephant & Piggie illustrations, she was thrilled. Talk about a confidence booster! There are cute frames toward the back of the book to frame your child’s portraits.

My younger one is in kindergarten, and he loves connect the dot art. He enjoyed making this portrait of Elephant!

There are so many fun family-friendly projects and activities in this book. Lately, my kids enjoy playing board games so we were excited to find one right in this book! The Sculpture Garden game is made from two pages in the book which are taped together. Find a coin and a placeholder for each player, and you’re good to go. They ended up playing this a few times in a row!

When you think about it, this learning disguised as fun. The board game encourages counting and reading, connect-the-dots is counting, and the creative art projects teach kids about space and following directions. The kids love having fun, and parents love watching them enjoy learning, so this book is a win for us all!

We Are in an ART-ivity Book! is available on Amazon. Get your copy today and give it to your favorite kids this holiday season!

I love this idea and that mailbox is so cute. I was never a good artist, so I love that this teaches kids basic drawing.

I have never heard about this series, but I will have to read up on this and see if it is a good fit for the littler ones in my library.
