A new Christmas Eve tradition?

By Heather

Today, we made our very first gingerbread house.

IMG_3604

It was hideous – decorating with icing is hard!

It’s now in the trash because of the huge mess it was making.
But we had a lot of fun with the design process!

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays to you.
I hope you’re taking this time to make many fun memories with your families!

Funny b/c I posted photos of our Gingerbread house the other day too! My boys LOVE helping me in the kitchen and we started doing the gingerbread kits a couple of years ago. I’m seriously thinking that next year I might just make the gingerbread myself though b/c this one does not taste good at all! My boys feel that they have to eat all of the candy off of it though, which I guess is fun for them. Our house didn’t look great, but sure was fun to make!

Mandee yours actually came out nice!!

I agree, those kits are nothing you’d want to eat, but the thought of baking the gingerbread myself was even more intimidating.

hahaha, oh this made me laugh b/c it’s so honest. I was going to blog about the very same thing today. Yesterday, we attempted our kit too. The gumdrops were sliding off the roof. Everything was dripping everywhere. The only place the icing hardened up was on the mixing spoons. The main thing is that it was fun. It’s no Martha Stewart masterpiece but we kept it.
I figured it is much like my own house (with the sloping roof and not perfect, at all)
Thanks for posting. I thought was just our lack of abilities!

Wow, yours looks so much better than ours came out! Ours didn’t even stay together long enough for pictures!

We did the same thing last year- OMG it was hard. Ours wouldn’t even stick together. I feel your pain. LOL

We started last year … it’s ok – a little stressful for a type A OCD mom like me :) I think it looks cute though!
