Petunia Pickle Bottom Weekender Tote Review and Give Away

When Ryan (a.k.a baby #2) came along, I was ready to give up the utilitarian tote that I schlepped the first time around. The only reason I registered for that ugly thing was because I knew Kevin would also be carrying it now and then, and he did. But I decided he would have to man up this time or get his own dang bag.

For months I searched for the ultimate diaper bag with the right mix of form and function.  I visited department stores, baby retailers and high end boutiques, but I just couldn’t throw good money after bad diaper bags. I didn’t want to settle on something that didn’t fit my needs, or overpay for something I’m only going to use for a year or two.

Old and new.

Finally, I struck gold with Petunia Pickle Bottom. I’d reviewed their touring tote before, but it would be too small for my current needs. While I like the concept of their boxy backpack, it wasn’t quite fitting the bill either. I was after the look of a large handbag, with the functionality of a diaper tote.

The Wistful Weekender hit the mark. My taste leans toward solid neutrals and away from anything overly feminine or flowery. The Misted Marseille pattern is feminine but not over-the-top or loud with a sort of floral/geometric hybrid pattern in gray with touches of my favorite color – green. I love the embroidered detail that you get with Petunia bags. It’s all in the details.

I’m not going to say that my new bag organizes itself. Maintaining order is something I’ll always struggle with. But with the weekender I have plenty of room for everything I carry and space for more. There are almost too many pockets to count.

It took me a few weeks to realize that there are hidden pockets at the front – they’re perfect for small things you tend to dig for that get lost in a large bag. I keep my cell phone in either of these pockets and it works out great, it’s always within reach.

Here’s a look at the bag empty, and how it looks on a daily basis. As you can see there is a ton of room left over for bottles, toys and extra changes of clothes. Inside there is a wipes case, changing mat and a key hook to help keep you organized.

Inside here you will find quite a few diapers, wipes, lip gloss, keys, my coupon book, wallet, a set of baby clothes, tissues and a mini first aid kit among other things.

This is a very large bag with space for everything for mom and baby. I use it on a daily basis and when we take day trips as a family I don’t need any extra bags. When the day comes when I don’t need a diaper bag, this will still be used for toting things whether for a weekend trip or as a laptop bag.
