What was your favorite childhood activity? Mine was making Shrinky Dinks in the oven with my mom. My favorites were the Smurfs light latchers we made for the kitchen window. Well, I am pleased to tell you that Shrinky Dinks are back, with a few changes.
Shrinky Dinks no longer require the use of your household oven thanks to the new The Incredible Shrink Dinks Maker. When I saw this I practically leapt for joy. Now I can relive one of my favorite childhood memories through the eyes of my child. Isn’t that what parenthood is all about?
Emma loves coloring and creating, so I knew she would be a fan as well. I think what kids love about Shrinky Dinks, is that it makes a child feel useful. They’re given the tools to actually make something from their own hands thanks to the magic of Shrinky Dinks.
Step 1:
Use the included booklet to trace a design onto the paper – or make up your own design. Then cut out the shape.

Step 2:
Color the design onto the rough side of the paper. Punch a hole now if you’d like to hang from a keychain or necklace later.
Step 3:
Carefully place your colored cutout, rough side facing up into the Shrink Dink tray. Use the tray tool to push it into the preheated mini-oven.
Step 4:
Watch as your Shrinky Dink gets smaller and smaller. It’s done when the shape is laying flat.

Here are our masterpieces. Only one ended up lying flat – so I’m not sure what we did wrong. I love that this is more accessible for kids and doesn’t require you to turn on your kitchen oven. Still, always supervise because the unit does get hot and your child will need help.
While it’s great for jewelry and keychain making keep in mind if you want to mak anything large like a sun catcher or ornament, you will need to use your actual oven to accommodate the size.
