One Lump or Two? #WW

We attended a quaint little mommy and me tea recently. It was cuter than cute. The girls most enjoyed adding lumps of sugar to their tea-err-apple juice. … [Read more...]

Remembering 9/11 Ten Years Later

TTlights.jpg

Just about ten or eleven years ago, a friend of mine came to visit from out of town. She was living in California, and really wanted to spend some time in New York City, so we took the train in for the day. Someone in our group suggested visiting the World Trade Center, and I talked her out of it. After the attempt on the towers made in 1993, I always thought of the WTC as a target and associated it with danger. I just knew that someday, something was going to happen, they'd try again. It … [Read more...]

Goodnight Irene, I’ll See You In My Dreams

stormman.jpg

We weathered the storm of Irene. It was...scary. Scarier than that earthquake earlier in the week. I've been through my share of hurricanes having grown up on an island, but this storm was unique in that it went over land and affected people as far out as western Pennsylvania and upstate New York. Crazy! Usually the hurricanes turn into tropical storms by the time they reach New Jersey, and even though this storm was downgraded to a category 1, it was a massive 510 miles in size. We live … [Read more...]

Wordless Wednesday: Earthquake Damage

Screen-shot-2011-08-24-at-9.16.17-PM.png

I stole this photo from a co-worker who posted it on facebook. Just had to share because it made me laugh so hard! In all seriousness, it was surreal yesterday experiencing my first earthquake ever. We were enjoying a beautiful day at the bay beach and Emma was sitting behind my chair. I felt shaking, but assumed that it was her shaking my chair so I ignored her and continued talking with my friend Mary. Then I saw her reaction and the fact that it wasn't just me shaking! It was … [Read more...]

I survived Zumba.

fitness-dance

With the encouragement (and company) of a friend, I toook my first Zumba class last night. Having not exercised regularly in a very long time, I was nervous.  Would I fail miserably, or just embarrass myself?  Those were the only two outcomes I could imagine. Surprisingly, it wasn't that bad.  Remembering when I took my first kickboxing class when I was in my early 20s, and how I couldn't make it through the entire class for the first several visits, I was expecting the same.  But this … [Read more...]

Wordless Wednesday plus *linky: The concrete won.

emmashiner1.jpg

After a fall last night, we knew her eye wasn't going to be pretty this morning. This absolutely breaks my heart. We're going to the doctor this morning just to make sure all is okay. Link up your Wordless Wednesday post and I'll stop on over. … [Read more...]

Wordless Wednesday: Cow Surgery

IMG_3153.jpg

I made this cow in my 8th grade home economics class.   After sitting in dark closets all these years, he has finally come out to play.  But Emma loved him just a bit too much and this happened. Good as new!  Just don’t look under his shirt, not pretty. … [Read more...]

We’re okay…but our stuff is not!

photo.jpg

We just had a heavy rainstorm come through in South Jersey, and I believe a mini tornado was part of it.  Or something like it.  I saw my cast iron patio furniture and brand new grill fly and I almost woke my daughter from her nap to go into the basement…and then it was over like that. It’s okay…it’s just stuff. I am still not done picking it all up. I’ll be starting back at square one with my composting. That’s our brand new grill on the ground.  This was Emma’s … [Read more...]
