#WW – Baby is a…

baby20weekus

On Thursday we went for the 20-week ultrasound, otherwise known as the anatomy scan. The tension was building as the technician shot all of the pictures during this unusually long ultrasound.  Of course on our minds was wanting a healthy baby first and foremost... ...but we both were eager to learn the sex of our baby. Emma was being especially difficult during the ultrasound.  She was carrying on and asking for things we didn't have, which honestly is pretty unusual for her.  I kept asking … [Read more...]

Happy Birthday, Baby!

blowingcandles3rd

My little baby girl isn't so little anymore.  She's three years old today - they grow so fast! This photo was taken yesterday during her birthday party.  Unfortunately, it's the best picture I could get...heads blocking her in every which way! Happy Birthday, Emma.  You are so loved! … [Read more...]

Family Photo by the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree #WW

It took us three years, but we finally got to Rockefeller Center for a family photo in front of the tree.  Emma really enjoyed her first time in the city.  We can't wait to do it again next year! … [Read more...]

17 Weeks Pregnancy Update and a PAPP-A Deficiency

prenatal-testing.jpg

This week I found out the results of my sequential screening. This screening tests for Down Syndrome (Trisomy 21), Patau Syndrome (Trisomy 13) and open neural tube defects. The only reason I test for this is so that I can get that extra ultrasound at 12 weeks. I'll jump at any opportunity to see my baby-in-progress. It would also be helpful for us to be mentally prepared in the event that there was some type of abnormality with the baby, but I would never consider terminating a pregnancy if … [Read more...]

We attended a quaint little mommy and me tea recently. It was cuter than cute. The girls most enjoyed adding lumps of sugar to their tea-err-apple juice. … [Read more...]

Remembering 9/11 Ten Years Later

TTlights.jpg

Just about ten or eleven years ago, a friend of mine came to visit from out of town. She was living in California, and really wanted to spend some time in New York City, so we took the train in for the day. Someone in our group suggested visiting the World Trade Center, and I talked her out of it. After the attempt on the towers made in 1993, I always thought of the WTC as a target and associated it with danger. I just knew that someday, something was going to happen, they'd try again. It … [Read more...]

Goodnight Irene, I’ll See You In My Dreams

stormman.jpg

We weathered the storm of Irene. It was...scary. Scarier than that earthquake earlier in the week. I've been through my share of hurricanes having grown up on an island, but this storm was unique in that it went over land and affected people as far out as western Pennsylvania and upstate New York. Crazy! Usually the hurricanes turn into tropical storms by the time they reach New Jersey, and even though this storm was downgraded to a category 1, it was a massive 510 miles in size. We live … [Read more...]

Wordless Wednesday: Earthquake Damage

Screen-shot-2011-08-24-at-9.16.17-PM.png

I stole this photo from a co-worker who posted it on facebook. Just had to share because it made me laugh so hard! In all seriousness, it was surreal yesterday experiencing my first earthquake ever. We were enjoying a beautiful day at the bay beach and Emma was sitting behind my chair. I felt shaking, but assumed that it was her shaking my chair so I ignored her and continued talking with my friend Mary. Then I saw her reaction and the fact that it wasn't just me shaking! It was … [Read more...]

I survived Zumba.

fitness-dance

With the encouragement (and company) of a friend, I toook my first Zumba class last night. Having not exercised regularly in a very long time, I was nervous.  Would I fail miserably, or just embarrass myself?  Those were the only two outcomes I could imagine. Surprisingly, it wasn't that bad.  Remembering when I took my first kickboxing class when I was in my early 20s, and how I couldn't make it through the entire class for the first several visits, I was expecting the same.  But this … [Read more...]
