Oh my gosh guys. I totally outdid myself today with this recipe. And I’m going to show you exactly how you can do it to. Disclaimer: I must first admit that I have never ever made nor eaten a Monte Cristo sandwich. Ever. But I’ve always been curious, so I went for it.
I can’t even describe the deliciousness I experienced this morning. Yes, I ate it in the morning, for breakfast. This sandwich is part breakfast, part lunch and an acceptable meal for any time of day. In my opinion, anyway. I think you’ll agree.
Last night I went to my grocery store, ShopRite, for more waffles, because we can’t seem to keep them stocked in this house. I was happy to see them on sale!
My family lives on Aunt Jemima Waffles. They’re one of the very few things I can feed my children and I know they will eat them without any wining. In fact, as I made this recipe, they both sat in a laundry basket and munched away.
What’s not to like? But there are other yummy ways to enjoy them other than with syrup. So without further, ado, I present,
Aunt Jemima Waffle Monte Cristo Sandwich
Ingredients:
Aunt Jemima Frozen Waffles
Honey turkey, thinly sliced
Honey ham, thinly sliced
America cheese (or swiss)
2 T Honey dijon mustard
2 T butter
Powder sugar
Step 1: Toast two waffles on a low setting, just long enough to pull the moisture out.
Step 2: Layer two slices of cheese onto one waffle, then roll three slices of turkey, then ham.
Step 3: Smear about 2 tablespoons of the mustard onto the ham, and then top with an additional two slices of cheese.
Step 4: In a grill pan (or skillet, panini press), melt 1 tablespoon butter. Gently place the sandwich onto the skillet over medium-high heat and press. Tent the pan with tin foil so that the cheese starts to melt from the heat.
Step 5: Gently flip the sandwich. Make sure you are watching closely so as not to burn those delicious waffles.
Step 6: When lightly toasted and cheese has melted to your liking, remove sandwich from the pan and place in a dish. Use a small sifter (or tea strainer) to sprinkle with powdered sugar.
Enjoy!
I was so in love with this sandwich that about half way through eating it, I decided to make coffee so that I could savor it. It is that good!

I enjoy Monte Cristo’s but have always had them on toast. Powdered sugar? That’s new. Kids do sit in the most unusual places. My daughter always sits at the very edge of the bed. I’m constantly telling her to move. It’s only a matter of time before…
